What: For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below expected. For the Wind Advisory, northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
Where: In North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe, and Watauga Counties. In Virginia, Carroll, Floyd, Grayson, and Roanoke Counties.
When: For the Extreme Cold Warning, until 1 PM EST Sunday. For the Wind Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 4 PM EST Sunday.
Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
