Description

What: Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Significant rises are being reported on the North Fork of the Virgin River and the mainstem Virgin River as well as Coal Creek and the Santa Clara River. While mainstem river flooding is not expected, rivers will continue to run high and fast.
Where: A portion of southern Utah, including the following counties, Iron, Kane and Washington.
When: Until 1045 AM MST Thursday.
Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, slot canyons, normally dry washes and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems.
Additional Details: - At 444 AM MST, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Zion National Park, Washington, Hurricane, La Verkin, New Harmony, Quail Creek State Park, Apple Valley, Dameron Valley, Gunlock State Park, Toquerville, Leeds, Virgin, Springdale, Kanarraville, Rockville, Pintura, Kolob Canyon, Pine Valley and Pinto.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
