What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
Where: A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, Vinton and Washington.
When: Until 530 PM EST Thursday.
Impacts: Flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.
Additional Details: - At 941 AM EST, Strong rises on creeks and streams continue due to runoff from overnight rain. This has resulted in several flooded roads across the warned area. Some larger creeks experiencing minor flooding include the upper reaches of Raccoon Creek and the Shade River. - In the Chester community, expect flooding of the Sugar Run Creek Bridge and portions of Scout Camp Road near the the river gauge on the Shade River. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Mcarthur, Albany, Lake Hope State Park, Chester, Syracuse, and Coalton. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
