Description

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for South central Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico Until 600 PM MDT. At 531 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 4 miles northeast of Afton, moving east at 20 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Afton, San Miguel, Mesquite, La Mesa, and Afton Generating Plant.

Action Recommandée

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Description

At 511 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Organ, moving southeast at 15 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and half inch hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include Las Cruces, White Sands Missile Range Headquarters, NMSU Main Campus, Organ, Talavera, East Mesa, Northeast Las Cruces, Dripping Springs, Aguirre Springs, Portions of Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument, and Soledad Canyon.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Description

What: Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of central Dona Ana County in New Mexico.
When: Until 630 PM MDT.
Impacts: Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos.
Additional Details: - At 436 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms in the complex terrain northwest of Radium Springs. Arroyos in hiking areas above Broad Canyon Dam, including the Slot Canyon, are likely to become inundated. - Some locations that may experience flooding include Hiking areas around Broad Canyon and the Slot Canyon near Radium Springs. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

Description

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe limits, and no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property. Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire. However, small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain are still possible with this thunderstorm.
