What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of northwest and west central New Mexico, including the following areas, in northwest New Mexico, Chuska Mountains and Northwest Plateau. In west central New Mexico, San Francisco River Valley, Southwest Mountains and West Central Plateau.
When: Until 9 PM MDT this evening.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Additional Details: - Storms with heavy rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will move off to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph this afternoon. Storms may continuously move over the same areas, creating localized rainfall totals over 2 inches. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

What: Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: Southeastern Cibola County in west central New Mexico
When: Until 700 PM MDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details: - At 358 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Acoma Pueblo. - http://www.weather.gov/abq/EmergencyPrepFlood

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
