Description

What: Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of southwest New Mexico, including the following county, Grant.
When: Until 545 PM MDT.
Impacts: Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. River flows within the Gila East Fork and Gila River along NM-15 will be elevated.
Additional Details: - At 343 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainage
S: Gila River East Fork, Gila River, Apache Creek, and Copperas Creek. - Some locations that may experience flooding include Gila River south of Gila Hot Springs and Copperas Vista. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
