Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay in your vehicle.

Description

What: Up to a foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
Where: Northeast Suffolk and Southeast Suffolk Counties.
When: From 11 AM this morning to 6 PM EST this evening.
Coastal Flood Impacts: Minor coastal flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect up to 1 ft of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
Shoreline Impacts: Breaking surf of 5 to 10 ft along Gardiners Bay, particularly Orient Point and north shore of the south fork, will cause beach flooding and dune erosion during the time of high tide. This may also exacerbate splashover flooding of shorelines roads and properties behind protective dunes, structures and seawalls. Minor damage to shoreline structures possible.

Action Recommandée

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

Description

Band of Heavy Snow Across the Area this Morning A band of very heavy snow will likely persist another 2 to 3 hours across the area with snowfall rates of 2 to possible 3 inches per hour. This combined with northerly wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph will produce blizzard conditions, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.
