Description

Through around 4 or 5 PM, several south central/central Nebraska and north central Kansas counties along and west of Highway 281 will likely experience solidly near-critical fire weather conditions, due to the combination of westerly winds gusting 20-30 MPH, and relative humidity dropping as low as 21-25 percent. Briefly-critical conditions cannot be ruled out if relative humidity manages to drop to 20 percent or slightly lower, which if it occurs, would be most favored in Phelps, Harlan, Smith and Osborne counties. Due to the expectation that any outright-critical fire weather thresholds would likely be reached on only a localized and brief basis, a formal fire weather Warning will not be issued for any counties included in this Special Weather Statement. However, caution is certainly advised this afternoon if engaging in any activities that could potentially spark a wildfire.
