The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Michigan Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties. .Warming temperatures will accelerate snowmelt over the weekend into early next week. Flows in rivers will increase quickly and reach critical levels. Rainfall is also likely during this time period which could result in rivers rising above the current forecast.
What: Minor flooding is forecast.
Where: Sturgeon River near Alston.
When: From Tuesday afternoon until further notice.
Impacts: At 8.0 feet, Homes and structures along the low lying areas and numerous roads become impacted by flood water. In Houghton CountySturgeon River RoadAho Roadand Rajala Road are impacted. In Baraga CountySturgeon RoadHalonen Road and Usitalo Road are impacted. Along Froberg RoadTahtinen Road Irwin RoadOliver Roadand Shirley Road are impacted.
Additional Details: - At 10:30 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 5.1 feet. - Bankfull stage is 7.5 feet. - ForecastThe river will rise to 5.6 feet early Saturday afternoon. It will then fall to 5.5 feet Saturday evening. It will rise above flood stage early Tuesday morning to 9.0 feet Wednesday, April 15.
