THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED TORNADO WATCH 103 IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN IOWA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 5 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL IOWA KOSSUTH WINNEBAGO WORTH IN NORTHWEST IOWA EMMET PALO ALTO THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALGONA, EMMETSBURG, ESTHERVILLE, FOREST CITY, LAKE MILLS, MANLY, AND NORTHWOOD.
Primary Threats Include: A FEW TORNADOES LIKELY WITH A COUPLE INTENSE TORNADOES POSSIBLE. WIDESPREAD LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER LIKELY. SCATTERED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE. At 659 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Graettinger, or 9 miles north of Emmetsburg, moving east at 15 mph.
Hazard: Tornado and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated rotation.
Impact: Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. This dangerous storm will be near Ringsted around 715 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Ringsted and Wolden County Park.
