An extended period of hot and humid conditions is expected acrosscentral and southeast Illinois into this weekend. Daily hightemperatures will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s today throughSunday, with afternoon heat indices peaking in the mid 90s to near100 degrees. Heat indices could even top 100 degrees Friday andSaturday afternoon. This high heat and humidity lasting for severaldays may be hazardous for sensitive and vulnerable populations.If working outside this week, be sure to drink plenty of water, wearloose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaksin air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on those mostvulnerable to the heat, including children and the elderly, provideshade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock, and check thebackseat of your vehicle when transporting children.
