An extended period of hot and humid conditions is expected acrosscentral and southeast Illinois through Saturday. Daily hightemperatures will be in the low to mid 90s, with afternoon heatindices of 95 to 100 degrees, and as high as 99 to 104 degrees thisafternoon. This high heat and humidity may be hazardous for sensitiveand vulnerable populations.If working outside this week, be sure to drink plenty of water, wearloose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaksin air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on those mostvulnerable to the heat, including children and the elderly, provideshade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock, and check thebackseat of your vehicle when transporting children.
