What: Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
Where: A portion of central South Carolina, including the following counties, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw and Lancaster.
When: Until 215 AM EDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated, particularly the Little Lynches River near and downstream of the town of Kershaw.
Additional Details: - At 1216 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Pageland, Kershaw, Heath Springs, Westville, Liberty Hill, Lake Wateree State Park, Mt Pisgah, Longtown, Jefferson, Ridgeway, Pleasant Hill, Lake Wateree near Highway 97, Kershaw Correctional Institution, Faith Christian School, Forty Acre Rock Preserve, Taxahaw, High Point Fire Station, Central High School and Winnsboro Mills. - This includes Interstate 77 between mile markers 33 and 46. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded roadway or around barricades. Turn around, don't drown. Flooded roadways are nearly impossible to see at night.
