Where: Avery, Buncombe, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Mitchell, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, and Yancey Counties.
When: For the Extreme Cold Warning, until 1 PM EST Sunday. For the Wind Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Sunday.
Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Pets and livestock will be endangered by extreme cold if left unprotected for extended periods.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.
