If at the beach, swim near a lifeguard and away from rocks,jetties and piers. In addition, don't swim at the eastern orwestern tips of Galveston Island. Tidal currents and rip currentsare always dangerous there.If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim againstthe current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.Galveston Beach Patrol is recommending adult experienced swimmersonly go no more than waist deep water, and those non-swimmers withkids to stay on the beach.
