What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of central, north central, northeast, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Iowa, including the following counties, in central Iowa, Boone, Dallas, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama and Webster. In north central Iowa, Butler, Franklin, Humboldt and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In south central Iowa, Appanoose, Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Ringgold, Union, Warren and Wayne. In southeast Iowa, Davis and Wapello. In southwest Iowa, Adair, Adams, Cass and Taylor. In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac.
When: Through late Thursday night.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
Additional Details: - A prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain is forecast through Thursday evening. It will be falling on already saturated soils. Rainfall totals will range from 2 to 4 inches in a southwest to northeast oriented band across central Iowa, with locally higher amounts likely. This rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Poor drainage and low lying areas may experience ponding. Significant rises are expected on many rivers and streams, which may exceed flood stage. Some larger river basins of most concern include the South Skunk River basin from Ames downstream, the Des Moines River basin Des Moines downstream, the Raccoon River downstream of U.S. Hwy 30, as well as the North, Middle, South, Nishnabotna, Grand and Chariton River basins.
