For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near Lake Hickory or Lookout Shoals Lake, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Please report damaging winds, hail, or flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, or by posting on our Facebook page, or post it to X using hashtag nwsgsp. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS EXTENDED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 590 TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING AREAS UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING IN NORTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 5 COUNTIES IN PIEDMONT NORTH CAROLINA CATAWBA CLEVELAND DAVIE IREDELL LINCOLN IN SOUTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 3 COUNTIES IN UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA GREENVILLE OCONEE PICKENS THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ADVANCE, BEREA, CLEMSON, CROUSE, DACUSVILLE, EASLEY, FARMINGTON, FORK CHURCH, FORK SHOALS, GREENVILLE, GREER, HICKORY, KINGS MOUNTAIN, LINCOLNTON, MAULDIN, MOCKSVILLE, MOORESVILLE, MOUNTAIN REST, NEWTON, OAKWAY, SENECA, SHELBY, SIMPSONVILLE, ST. STEPHENS, STATESVILLE, TAYLORS, WALHALLA, AND WESTMINSTER.
