THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 78 IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM CDT /6 PM EDT/ THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ILLINOIS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 13 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS LIVINGSTON IN EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS FORD IROQUOIS IN NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS DE KALB LA SALLE LEE IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS COOK DUPAGE GRUNDY KANE KANKAKEE KENDALL WILL IN INDIANA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 5 COUNTIES IN NORTHWEST INDIANA BENTON JASPER LAKE IN NEWTON PORTER THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF AURORA, BOLINGBROOK, BOURBONNAIS, CAROL STREAM, CHESTERTON, CHICAGO, COAL CITY, DEKALB, DEMOTTE, DIXON, DOWNERS GROVE, DWIGHT, ELGIN, EVANSTON, FAIRBURY, FOWLER, GARY, GIBSON CITY, GILMAN, HAMMOND, JOLIET, KANKAKEE, KENTLAND, LA SALLE, LEMONT, LOMBARD, MARSEILLES, MENDOTA, MERRILLVILLE, MINOOKA, MOROCCO, MORRIS, NAPERVILLE, OAK LAWN, ORLAND PARK, OSWEGO, OTTAWA, OXFORD, PARK FOREST, PAXTON, PLANO, PONTIAC, PORTAGE, RENSSELAER, ROSELAWN, SCHAUMBURG, STREATOR, SYCAMORE, VALPARAISO, WATSEKA, WHEATON, WILMINGTON, AND YORKVILLE.

Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
Where: Portions of northeast Illinois, including the following counties, Cook and Will and northwest Indiana, including the following county, Lake IN.
When: Until 130 PM CDT.
Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Additional Details: - At 1037 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain fell due to thunderstorms. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Joliet, Hammond, Gary, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Romeoville, Plainfield, Calumet City, Portage, Merrillville, Chicago Heights, East Chicago, Schererville, Hobart, Lansing, Oak Forest, Crown Point, Harvey, Lockport and New Lenox. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
