What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of central Alabama, including the following counties, Jefferson and Shelby.
When: Until 815 PM CDT.
Impacts: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.
Additional Details: - At 509 PM CDT, heavy rainfall has ended, but multiple creeks and streams remain out of their banks, including Village Creek and Shades Creek. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Hueytown, Gardendale, Irondale, Fairfield, Fultondale, Pleasant Grove, Tarrant, Midfield, Brighton, Indian Springs Village, Lipscomb, Samford University, Five Points South and U.A.B. Campus.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
