An earlier photo shows a Common Tern wearing a federal leg band. This photo shows the mate to that banded bird. Both birds returned to this area today April 28th. I was able to determine the number on the band and reported it to the Bird Banding Lab in Maryland, USA who advised me the number and the bird are in their database confirming the bird is 17 years old and banded at a location 6 miles West of Massena, New York. I first determined this bird’s band number in 2019 and every year since.
